Genetic diversity shaped by transposon variation in chickpea
Chickpea is a crucial crop for the agriculture and economy of many developing countries. However, the sensitivity of chickpea to stress factors rose due to the reduced genetic diversity since last century. Therefore, the development of resistant chickpea genotypes is an important challenge. Here we analyzed the transposon insertion polymorphisms (TIPs) and demonstrate its contribution to phenotypic variation in chickpea. Our findings open a way for TIPs use in future breeding to build improved cultivars.
