The lecture briefly outlines the history and current status of the synchrotron radiation facility SKIF, its major research directions and plans for the infrastructure development with the emphasis on macromolecular crystallography. The facility is presently under construction in the science city of Koltsovo near Novosibirsk.
Structural biology is envisaged as one of the major scientific directions of the SKIF. Macromolecular crystallography will be implemented as a part of the 1-2 “Structural Diagnostics” beamline functionality to be commisioned in 2025. Specialized auxiliary equipment for the automated protein crystallization will be available for users in the support Labs building. More structural biology-related capailities, including biological small-angle X-ray scattering, will come with second-phase beamlines.
