This study investigates the metabolic responses of melanoma cells to terahertz (THz) radiation, focusing on the effects of THz irradiation on cellular metabolism. Our findings show intricate alterations in the cellular metabolic profile, including a reduction in key energy metabolites like ATP and an increase in their degradation products. Our methodological approach allows for comprehensive metabolomic profiling, analyzing 500,000 cells per sample. This enables us to examine the effects of exogenous factors on rare cells, highlighting the potency of metabolomics in understanding the cellular mechanisms affected by THz radiation. Metabolomic screening is a valuable tool for understanding the biological implications of THz radiation and can aid in the development of safety strategies for various applications. This research emphasizes the importance of metabolomics as a powerful tool for understanding cellular responses to electromagnetic radiation and contributes to the development of safer protocols and more efficient use of THz technology.
